In high school, they told her she didn't belong in Honors English because she didn't speak proper English. Today, Jessica Berry holds her Doctorate Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders from Louisiana State University and spreads awareness about Gullah Geechee language and the importance of recognizing it as such! Gullah/Geechee been 'ya-- and it isnt going anywhere!

We also learn about her journey from studying music to speech pathology and how she has had to combat the idea that "Gullah/Geechee language is dead" throughout her academic studies.  We even discuss the announcement of the new Harvard course and how "codeswitching" has affected the confidence of Geechee speakers and how speaking Geechee does not make you less intelligent!
